Although if it is just a single router typical home setup most people could just use a default setup and make it work. I got a MikroTik router just a few months ago and it does run great, has anything you could want under the sun, and it was even cheap! But like you said, it is very advanced, and as a network noob I probably spent 12 hours configuring it to do everything I wanted despite considering myself pretty tech savy, and don't even know exactly what I did to make it work as I wanted.
